The World's largest marine Park:
Snorkel a long way from shore.
The Great Barrier Reef is made up of 2,900 individual reefs and contains 900 islands and the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park is the largest in the World. To appreciate it underwater and snorkel close to coral, giant clams and colourful fish, you will need to travel offshore 50 Kms (30 mi) or more from Cairns - to the Outer Great Barrier Reef. The foreshore around Cairns is not good for snorkeling if you want to see the real Reef, so book a day tour that will get you right out into the offshore part of the Marine Park. Day tours to the Outer Reef leave from the Cairns Marina early, so you will need to confirm your snorkel expedition beforehand to avoid missing out. Book online before you arrive to be sure.
Outer Great Barrier Reef Snorkel Cruise from Cairns.
Visit Agincourt Reef for the day. If you are a non-swimmer, but want to appreciate the Reef underwater, the semi-submersible submarine will allow you to see things up close. Beginner snorkelers will appreciate the clarity of the water and the brilliant colours of the coral and the schools of reef fish. Snorkel directly over the Reef from the pontoon, or take the Ocean Walker Helmet Dive - no experience necessary.
An active, interesting day on the Reef.
