Itinerary
Day 1: Port Arthur & the Tasman Peninsula
Stop At: Constitution Dock, 1 Franklin Whrf, Hobart, Tasmania 7000 Australia
Start the day with a stroll around Constitution Dock area. See the Mawsons Hut replica museum, the statues immortalising the first ever expedition to the south pole, the replica of our famous convict carrying vessel the May Queen and possibly even a hungry fur seal who has made his way into the dock area for breakfast at one of the many floating seafood restaurants. We will also see the stunning backdrop of Mt wellington behind the city.

Cross the Tasman Bridge as we head over to the Eastern Shore on our way to the Tasman Peninsula.
Stop At: Pirates Bay/Eaglehawk Neck, Southeast Tasmania, Tasmania Australia
A morning coffee & snacks break at a very scenic location with panoramic views down the coastline.

Stop At: Tessellated Pavement Track, Eaglehawk Neck TAS 7179, Australia
Walk onto and explore the worlds best example of a tessellated pavement – a series of cracks in the rock forming unusual patterns on the waters edge.

Take a leisurely stroll at the 2 stunning lookout points of Devils Kitchen and the 90m high Tasman’s Arch. Both completely natural formations they boast striking geological features.

After lunch wander into the fields of pink & purple Lavender for a great photo opportunity.

Stop At: Port Arthur Historic Site, Arthur Highway, Port Arthur, Tasmania 7182 Australia
Enjoy a personally guided 3hr tour around this lovely site. We will explore many buildings, learn about the history of Port Arthur and convict transportation to Tasmania, and have many scenic vantage points. Also enjoy a 30 minute harbour cruise to view the site as incoming convicts would have.

See the Denison Canal built in the very early 1900’s as a shortcut for passing merchant & trade vessels en route to Hobart. Another great photo opportunity. Learn about the significance of the Tasman Peninsula in our fight to save the iconic Tasmanian Devil from the spread of a fatal disease.

Sample some delicious hand made chocolate at Federation Chocolate. A great opportunity to purchase some take aways.

Day 2: Hobart, Mt Wellington, Richmond and Bonorong Wildlife Park.

Pass through the famous Salamanca area en route to a scenic drive through one of our oldest suburbs Battery Point. We will trip around Arthur Circus park with its cute, original cottages and learn of its history and Governor George Arthur whom the circle was named after. We will see many heritage listed home and amazing gardens as we wind through the narrow streets.
Pass By: Cascades Female Factory Historic Site, 16 Degraves St South Hobart, Hobart, Tasmania 7004 Australia
A slow drive by as we explain the significance of our largest female correctional facility. Learn of the struggles our early female convicts faced as we view the imposing external perimeter.
Stop At: Cascade Brewery, 131 Cascade Rd, Hobart, Tasmania 7004 Australia
One of the cities most notable and striking buildings we will stop at the Cascade brewery for some great photos and stories of the brewing industry in Tasmania.

Stop At: Mount Wellington, Pinnacle Road, Hobart, Tasmania Australia
Ascend right to the summit of the imposing Mt Wellington 1275m high. Sweeping, panoramic views are in every direction as we take in what is one of the worlds naturally beautiful cities.

Stop At: Frogmore Creek Winery, 20 Denholms Rd, Cambridge TAS 7170, Australia
Stop in to see the famous & extremely unique artwork ‘A Flawed History’ on the mezzanine level depicting stories of the wine industry in Tasmania. Fun, colourful and entertain this is worth a short stop.

Stop At: Richmond Bridge, Bridge Street, Richmond, Clarence, Tasmania 2004 Australia
Australia’s oldest bridge still currently in use, built by the convicts in 1823. It is certainly the most lovely bridge on the island of Tasmania.

Stop At: Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, 593 Briggs Rd, Brighton, Tasmania 7030 Australia
An afternoon spent at the lovely wildlife Sanctuary Bonorong features all the famous Tasmanian native animals including Devil’s, Wombats and Quolls. This park even has a few resident Koalas and a 40 feeding presentation from one of the keepers lets you get up close and personal to the animals.

Get a birds eye view of the Derwent River and surrounding valley’s over the township of New Norfolk.

Day 3: The Central Highlands

Stop at Bronte Lagoon for a photo opportunity by the monument marking the geographical centre of Tasmania.

Stop At: The Wall in the Wilderness, 15352 Lyell Hwy, Derwent Bridge, Tasmania 7140 Australia
A true cultural gem in Tasmania. ‘The Wall’ art gallery is surly one of the most original & unique displays in Australia. Carved entirely out of Huon Pine this 100m long display tells stories of the early pioneers and the hardships they faced on the island.

Stop At: Cradle Mountain-Lake St. Clair National Park, Tasmania Australia
Visit Tasmania’s largest, natural freshwater lake at Lake St. Clair. At 17km long this steep side lake is an icon and looks absolutely stunning from the boat ramp jutting out into the crystal clear waters. Explore the lakeside area with some fully guided walking through the lakeside forested area. Keep your eye open for Platypus as they are know to inhabit this area. Afterwards relax in the restaurant while enjoying a delicious a la carte lunch.

A brief detour to see some fantastic old, original and beautiful hydroelectric infrastructure – a significant engineering feature in Tasmania.

Stop At: Tarraleah Power Station Lookout, Oldina Drive, Tarraleah, Tasmania Australia
Learn about the mighty feat of engineering that took over 25years to complete in the mid 1900’s – the Tasmanian Hydro-electric scheme. From this wonderful lookout we can see over a huge valley and get a glimpse of the scale of this project.

Day 4: The Derwent Valley

Enjoy morning tea/coffee & snacks provided free on the banks of this picturesque river spot.

Stop At: Russell Falls, Mount Field National Park, Tasmania Australia
Our most photographed Waterfall, the majestic Russell Falls. Enjoy the easy 35min return walk to view the 2 tiered falls from a spacious viewing platform. For those inclined to walk a little further an additional 25min walk can be added if you don’t mind descending many flights of stairs. Here you will spot some of the biggest Tree Ferns and Tasmanian Oak trees anywhere on the island.

Lunch today will be at a fantastic new restaurant called ‘The Shed’ attached to Derwent Valley Estate winery with a beautiful aspect overlooking the valley below. Surrounded by vineyards this is a fantastic 2-course lunch experience.

Stop At: Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens, Lower Domain Road Queens Domain, Hobart, Tasmania 7000 Australia
Enjoy a guided stroll through some lovely parts of Hobart’s Botanical Gardens. A perfect location for some free afternoon tea/coffee and snacks.

Day 5: The Salamanca Markets and MONA
Stop At: Salamanca Market, Salamanca Place, Hobart, Tasmania 7001 Australia
Spend your morning enjoying Tasmania’s famous Saturday Salamanca Markets with countless stalls exhibiting some of the islands best food, drink, fresh produce, jewellery, local craft and many other interesting artisan items. This is self guided so you are free to wander, following your shopping & exploration instincts.

Stop At: Museum of Old and New Art (Mona), 655 Main Rd Moorilla Estate, Berriedale, Glenorchy, Tasmania 7011 Australia
Your organised afternoon activity is an adventure to the acclaimed MONA – The Museum of Old & New Art. The 25min fast boat ride up the Derwent River is in itself a fantastically scenic journey. Being self-guided you are free to explore the museum at your leisure. This is one of Tasmania’s premier cultural experiences. When you are ready the fast boast will return you to Hobart city via another scenic cruise down river.

For those not inclined to visit MONA Museum there is a 2nd option available for your afternoon activities. A 60min Harbour Cruise taking in some of the most scenic locations of the Hobart Waterfront and includes entertaining & informative commentary. This option allows guests an extra hour or so at the Salamanca Markets and makes for a slightly slower paced and more relaxed Saturday afternoon.

Day 6: Checkout

This morning marks the conclusion of you ‘6 Day Tassie Gourmet’ Tour. Checkout will be at 11am. Storage of bags can easily be arranged with hotel reception for those who perhaps have a late afternoon flight and wish to venture out to explore the city further.
