Itinerary
Day 1: Rainbow Beach — Fraser Island (L, D)
Stop At: Lake McKenzie, Fraser Island, Queensland 4581 Australia
We begin with a quick morning briefing at Freedom Rainbow Beach at 7:00 am before driving approx 15 minutes to the barge (ferry) and boarding for our 15-minute barge crossing. Once we have arrived on the world’s largest sand island, we traverse the eastern beach – K’gari’s (Fraser Island) own highway (speed limits apply)! The adventure begins as we drive to the famous Lake McKenzie, arguably the most popular and picturesque highlight of K’Gari (Fraser Island). Here, we stop for lunch and quality time to swim and relax in the lake’s amazingly clear waters. Around 3:00 pm, we drive up the beach to our campsite for an early dinner and a relaxing evening by the fire!

Day 2: Fraser Island — Rainbow Beach (B, L)
Stop At: Champagne Pools, Waddy Point Bypass, Fraser Island, Queensland 4567 Australia
Arise in the morning for a quick breakfast before we begin our second day on K’Gari (Fraser Island). Our first point of call (pending tidal conditions) for the day would be heading north to the Champagne Pools for a dip. Our alternate route if the Champagne Pools prove inaccessible, is to drive to the beginning of the Lake Wabby walk where we stride through the dunes to a tropical paradise.

Stop At: Maheno Ship Wreck, Fraser Island, Queensland 4581 Australia
After the pools, we will head to the SS Maheno Shipwreck for a few photo opportunities and a short history lesson covering this famous K’gari (Fraser Island) icon.
Duration: 30 minutes
Stop At: Eli Creek, 75 Mile Beach Road, Fraser Island, Queensland 4581 Australia
We then will continue to Eli Creek, a beautifully clear creek perfect for another relaxing swim. After the day’s activities, it’s time to begin our drive down the beach heading back to the barge.
Once arrived on the mainland, we return the cars to Freedom Rainbow Beach where you’ll have time to unpack and quickly clean your vehicle.
Estimated return time to Freedom Rainbow Beach is between 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm.
