DESCRIPTION
At the nominated time on your booking, meet at the Tasmanian Travel and Information Centre (20 Davey Street).
This Tour departs from the Tasmanian Travel and
Information Center and follows the historic Sandy Bay Road and Channel Highway,
passing the remains of the Gaol from where the convicts built them. You get to
see prosperous Sandy Bay with its shops, beaches ,University of Tasmania Campus
and Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania. Further down we pass Taroona High school and
share a story about a famous person you’ve probably heard of. Then we get views of the peculiar 58m
sandstone shot tower that could just about make the fairy tale Rapunzel come
alive, before arriving at popular Kingston Beach.
A free hot drink is on hand from a local
waterfront cafe as you sit and view the beach, Derwent Estuary and the 1811
Iron Pot lighthouse or if you like you can enjoy a short walk on the promenade
or beach.
Then its though the bush (Eucalyptus forest) to
the hill top suburb of Mt Nelson. We pass a local volunteer fire station and
share one of its stories. Now its onto the the signal station where once apon a
time flags and mast arms communicated signals all the way to the Port Arthur
convict site. Enjoy the historic displays and get some amazing views of Hobart,
the Derwent and the Tasman Peninsula.
On our return we pass though Hobart’s oldest
suburb Historic Battery Point. Here we pass the 1837 St Georges Church With yet
another mysterious sandstone tower plus an unexpected story. Then its on past
the Shipwrights Arms Hotel, popular with the Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, before
passing its finish line.
Next its past the colonial era Tasmanian
Parliament, and the proposed Australian Football Leage stadium site for a
timely drop off only 100m from the cruise terminal. There is also the option of
being dropped back at the Tasmanian Tourist Information Centre.
