Enjoy a full day of heritage, beautiful scenery and wildlife encounters!

The Dandenong Ranges are home to some of the most beautiful temperate rainforests in Victoria. Dotted with small towns, this area is vastly untouched and offers a chance to really get back to nature. Your trip on Puffing Billy will take you through towering gullies, under huge ancient ferns and up winding hills, giving you the best views of the area.

Next you will have the chance to see Australia’s most iconic wildlife at Moonlit Sanctuary. Wander the Wallaby Walk where Kangaroos roam free or spot the sleepy Koalas.

Towards the end of your day, our guide will take you to the world-famous Penguin Parade to watch hundreds of Little Penguins arrive at dusk. See them waddle up the beach to their nesting grounds for a rest before returning to sea the following day. Don’t forget to take a walk along the many board walks and paths as you might be able to see them up even closer!

Explore Melbourne’s underworld c.1870’s to 1930’s, an era in which Melbourne’s downtown slum district, ‘Little Lon’, was mostly run by women. Learn about the battle for supremacy, madams who stood their ground against well-known gangsters such as Squizzy Taylor, and an all-female crime syndicate known as ‘The Combine’. Stop outside buildings which were once brothels and sly grog shops (speak easies), and hear the stories of what occurred within their walls and on the streets and laneways around them.

Shootings, bombings, bashings, brothels, robberies, opium, cocaine and sly grog (speak easies).

The tour is designed and delivered by writer and historian, Michael Shelford.

Our first stop is a surfer’s dream beach, Cape Woolamai. From here we will lace up the boots and start our hike that will guide you through rugged rock formations, known as the Pinnacles.

After our easy/moderate 6.8km hike we will head into Cowes for a delicious lunch before we Phillip Island Koala Reserve. Stroll through this eucalypt woodland and come ‘face-to-face’ with koalas in their natural habitat. The Koala Reserve’s unique tree top boardwalks and close viewing areas allow visitors to see how truly amazing koalas are.

Our next stop is The Nobbies for an easy stroll along the boardwalk to discover breathtaking coastline views and the impressive thundering blowhole. This area is home to Australia’s largest seal colony, little penguins, and silver gulls.

And to finish the day we will take a waddle on the wild side and see hundreds (sometimes thousands) of penguins emerge from the surf at sunset at the world-famous Penguin Parade. This experience is a wildlife lover’s dream!
