DESCRIPTION
Irukandji Shark & Ray Encounters is an incredible interactive aquarium. This experience is not just viewing the animals – visitors get up close and personal! Pet them, feed them and now ALL VISITORS have the Shallows Encounter, wading into the shallows of the lagoons, included in their entry ticket.
At Irukandji visitors can enjoy our sandy beaches surrounded by many curious, friendly sharks & rays whilst staying (mostly) dry – only getting feet/legs wet. Physically stepping into the water with them brings a whole new level of excitement and fear and the animals display their endearing personalities & steal the hearts of visitors they meet. Visitors quickly develop a passion and stewardship, making for a life-long love and understanding of these misunderstood species and the ocean ecosystem.
Wear & Keep souvenir socks are an optional $5 to wear into our lagoon. Visitors are now welcome to wade in the lagoons with bare feet if preferred. The animals may be curious about toes, so purchasing socks is recommended for anybody feeling nervous. Wearing socks in the water is safe for the animals and creates a camouflage for visitor’s pink toes that can look similar to squid.
Swimwear is not needed or permitted on its own, please wear clothes at all times. We recommend shorts or skirts (or pants you can roll up) for this activity. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. If you wish to get totally wet, please add wetsuit hire on the next screen or ensure clothing you wear into the water has been pre-washed with no soap or chemicals.
Irukandji Shark & Ray Encounters is an interactive aquarium where you will get the chance to feed and pet a variety of species of sharks and rays. Your entry pass includes walking around the aquarium and feeding/petting from the edges of the lagoon, wading into the shallows of the lagoon, food for our sharks and rays and educational talks by our knowledgeable fish keepers.
Extra exclusive activities such as snorkelling and private larger shark encounter sessions can also be purchased.
Book ahead to avoid disappointment. We are personal interactive experience and only allow a certain number of visitors at any given time. Our aquarium is very popular and in busy times can book our for an entire day, booking are definitely needed so you don’t miss out.
Sessions run all day from 9am-5pm. Arrive by 3.30pm for the full experience.
Inclusions: Admission to the aquarium, entry into the lagoon shallows, shark food, interaction with the animals (petting/feeding), interesting and informative animal talks and staff on hand for personalised attention.
What to bring: Hats, REEF-FRIENDLY sunscreen, cameras (underwater cameras are great!), clothes (t-shirts & shorts or skirts)
What not to bring: Just swimwear (clothing must be worn over the top), non-reef friendly sunscreen, your own wetsuits and water shoes, pets.
PLEASE NOTE- Children are aged from 3-16 years. Children under 3 are no charge.
