DESCRIPTION
Pick up at 6.00 AM from your accommodation in Darwin urban area. It is a private tour, not sharing the car with strangers. Mattia will welcome you with a Barista coffee or tea ready in the car we will stop for Breakfast in Fogg Dam.
Fogg Dam is one of the most accessible places in the Northern Territory (NT) to experience spectacular wetlands and wildlife throughout the year. If you’re a keen bird watcher, there are often a variety of birds around the dam wall. It is also a haven for water pythons, freshwater turtles and other wildlife.
Fogg Dam has one of the world’s highest biomass of predator (water pythons) to prey (dusky rats) ratio.
After breakfast we are back in the car for 20 minutes, and we drive to the Corroboree tavern, the hectic Pub of the Marrkai region, a real territorian Place. We can use the toilets and have a look at their Buffalo and Croc pets. We still have 30 minutes drive before getting to our special shortcut to Cooinda, the Old Jim Jim road. (only in the middle of the dry season, if the road is open) It is a 4wd dirt road, of around 100km that cuts through the middle of the park, parallel to the northern main road. Starting out near the Alligator River crossing (good place to croc watch) the Old Jim Jim Road gets straight into the red dirt, weaving through the dry scrubland littered with an array of palms, cycads and savannah bushland. This road has remote campsites and long waterholes that are popular with serious campers and fishes. There are a couple of river crossings, but these generally only run after the Wet season.
By 11.30 we get to Yellow Water for your scenic cruise. Enjoy a one and a half hour wildlife cruise on Yellow Water, a lush tropical billabong located in Kakadu National Park. This tranquil wetland is home to a diversity of flora and fauna. Watch as native birds rest among waterlilies, see saltwater crocodiles, wild horses and wallabies in their natural habitats and discover why this unspoiled wilderness is a World Heritage listed landmark.
At 1.00 PM Mattia Will pick you up from the Yellow water, going to the Warrandjan culture centre for toilet stop and a quick look to the culture centre. The Anbanbang billabong for Lunch. It’s a great opportunity to experience the sights and sounds of the billabong, and see the array of birdlife that calls this area home. This is one of Kakadu’s most attractive billabongs. We will visit the Anbanbang Main gallery in Nourlangie. The walls of the Burrungkuy (Nourlangie) rock art site, in World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park, have served as a shelter and canvas for thousands of years. You can see famous paintings such as Namarrgon and Lightning Man. It is an easy walk of around 20 minutes. We still have the last Kakadu gem to visit, the Ubirr rock art and lookout. The walk up the lookout is degree 3/5, around 10 mintues of distance. Here one of the most beutiful lookouts of the Kakadu NP. Leaving late afternoon we will head to humpty Doo (2.5 hours) for a Pub dinner at the historical tavern Humpty Doo Hotel.
