Heritage-listed and home to many exotic species of plants and tree-lined avenues, it is a green gem in the heart of the city. Morning or Afternoon Tea may be taken here, at the Garden Club Cafe.

New Farm Park is a heritage-listed public park along the Brisbane River in trendy New Farm. It delights visitors all year round with its vibrant, seasonal flowerbeds, ancient trees, open spaces ideal for a picnic, and proximity to the Brisbane Powerhouse Theatre.

We travel along Orleigh Park which hugs the Brisbane River in the hip and bohemian suburb of West End. Situated on the St Lucia reach (on opposite bank) of the Brisbane River it is a handy location for inner city executives and artists to commute by CityCat Ferry into the CBD, and for students to cross over to the University of Queensland. A picturesque park.

We stop at the Kangaroo Point Cliffs Park for a short amble along the Brisbane River. Take advantage of some great photo opportunities of the Brisbane CBD skyline and do not be surprised to be greeted by one of the many water dragons that live in the area.

Capt Burke Park, named after a lovestruck sailor, is nestled under the iconic Story Bridge and is surrounded by boardwalks and the lapping waters of the Brisbane River. Looking across to the Brisbane CBD and New Farm, the park is a refreshingly green area right in the centre of Brisbane. We also stop to look at the unusual species of rainforest and exotic trees planted by an early botanist that have established themselves close to the park.

New Farm Park is a beautifully maintained heritage-listed park on the Brisbane River, in the trendy and upmarket suburb of New Farm. Popular for picnics, river walks, and with those seeking cool shade from the summer heat under the ancient Moreton Bay Fig trees this park is a favourite recreation spot with visitors and locals alike. The perfectly manicured garden beds showcase seasonal flowers in bloom, and the iconic rotunda tends to transport you back to a more elegant bygone era. New Farm Park is also handy to the fashionable and exciting performing arts and comedy venue of the Brisbane Powerhouse. Morning or Afternoon Tea may be at the Brisbane Powerhouse cafe, and is included.

The surprisingly lush and verdant gardens of Roma Street Parkland is our next stop where you can lose yourself in a rainforest right in the CBD. Walking through Roma Street Parkland is an immersive experience with exotic plants, waterfalls, native bee hives and water dragons. There are also sprawling grassy areas to sit, relax and absorb the green (vegetation) and blue (sky) colours presented to us by nature, a million miles it seems, from the city.

It would be easy to spend a day in the Brisbane Botanic Gardens at Toowong, however we only have limited time and pass briefly around the gardens pointing out the location.

We stop at JC Slaughter Falls at the base of Mt Coot-tha for an amble along the forested creek beds and through the rocky gorge, or just taking time to relax in the cool shade of this secluded and naturally wild park.

Mt Coot-tha is a heritage-listed lookout providing panoramic views of Brisbane and its surrounds. It offers a great vantage point to see the snake-like Brisbane River winding through tree covered suburbs with just glimmers of rooves poking out above the dense foliage. On a clear day one can even see across Moreton Bay to as far as Moreton Island. The lookout provides a perfect snapshot of the charms of Brisbane.
