Stop At: Curtain Fig National Park, Yungaburra, Queensland Australia
This park protects the endangered Mabi forest, characterised by semi-deciduous canopy trees allowing ample light to reach the forest floor. Notably, it houses a unique fig tree with extensive aerial roots forming a striking “curtain” effect. Originating from a seed dropped high in the canopy, the strangler fig gradually strangled its host tree, leaving a freestanding fig tree estimated to be over 500 years old, nearly 50 meters tall, with a trunk circumference of 39 meters.
Blue Adventures Wildlife tours is actively planting trees with ReForest Australia to help restore the region to pre industrial logging days.
Duration: 20 minutes
Stop At: Granite Gorge Nature Park, 332 Paglietta Rd, Mareeba, Queensland 4880 Australia
