3 day Tasmanian highlights tour – Hobart, Port Arthur and Bruny Island

One can’t say that they’ve truly explored Tasmania without visiting the big three: Hobart, Port Arthur and Bruny Island. This three-day tour will make sure you get the full Tassie experience by guiding you on an epic journey around Tasmania’s south.

Day 1: Covers all of Hobart’s key attractions: Mt Wellington, Bonorong, MONA, Richmond, city highlights tour and Salamanca market (Sat only).

Day 2: Bruny island – Arguably Tasmania’s best day trip! This magical Island has a little piece of everything Tasmania has: World class beaches, rugged coastline and native wildlife matched with the finest local produce from the ocean and the land – a tour you do not want to miss! You will see firsthand why Bruny Island is fast becoming one of Tasmania’s most popular tourist destinations.

Day 3: The Port Arthur tour is a direct bus to the historic site where you will have 4 hours to explore at your own pace. This 7 hour round trip departs Hobart at 10:30 AM getting back at around 5:30 PM.

Itinerary

Day 1: 5 of Hobart’s Best

Stop At: Hobart, Hobart, Greater Hobart, Tasmania
Whilst the streets are quiet, we will take you on a city highlights tour from the comfort of the bus. We will see the gorgeous colonial and sandstone buildings that occupy the streets of Hobart, such as the historic Cascade brewery. Accompanied with live audio from your guide, this is the perfect orientation to your stay in Hobart.

Stop At: Mount Wellington, Pinnacle Road, Hobart, Tasmania Australia
Breathe in the famous pristine Tasmanian air as we drive up the 1272m to the pinnacle of Mount Wellington (Kunanyi) where you will be greeted by the very best view of Hobart and surrounds. We will have ample time to wander around and capture that perfect selfie!
If it is a rainy day or the mountain is shrouded in cloud, we will take you to an alternative lookout so you don’t miss out on Hobart’s beautiful vistas.

Stop At: Salamanca Market, Salamanca Place, Hobart, Tasmania 7001 Australia
It is now time for Salamanca Market (Saturday only) – Tasmania’s #1 tourist attraction! This world class market offers the best of Tassie culture – art, produce, buskers, souvenirs, beverages and much more!
Join the locals as you stroll the stalls in search of gifts while sipping on a coffee and eating some breakfast. This is the closest you will get to becoming a local. The atmosphere is chilled and the experience is unforgettable.

Stop At: Richmond Bridge, Bridge Street, Richmond, Clarence, Tasmania 2004 Australia
Step back in time as you explore the rich convict township of Richmond. Home to Australia’s oldest bridge and Catholic Church. A interesting little stop famous for its bespoke shops and eateries.

Stop At: The Wicked Cheese Co., 1238 Richmond Rd, Richmond, Clarence, Tasmania 7025 Australia
Free cheese sampling from the award winning local cheese maker Wicked Cheese.
Duration: 15 minutes

Stop At: Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, 593 Briggs Rd, Brighton, Tasmania 7030 Australia
Get up close and personal with all the unique Australian wildlife. An experience you will never forget as you walk through this beautifully put together animal rescue sanctuary. Here you will see Tasmanian Devils, Kangaroos, Wombats, Koalas and many more famous and fluffy animals. Cost $27pp.

Stop At: Museum of Old and New Art (Mona), 655 Main Rd Moorilla Estate, Berriedale, Glenorchy, Tasmania 7011 Australia
The largest privately own Museum in the southern hemisphere. Come and see for yourself why people are coming to Hobart specifically to see this strange and quirky thing we call art. Cost $30pp

Day 2: Bruny Island Day Tour

Stop At: Mavista Falls, Bruny Island, Tasmania Australia
Step into this temperate rain forest and smell the clean crisp air while taking in mother natures vibes. This 20 minute return walk will give you an idea of the many environments on this magnificent Island.
Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Cape Bruny Lighthouse, 1750 Lighthouse Rd, Bruny Island, Tasmania Australia
Spend 30 minutes exploring picturesque Cape Bruny with the second oldest original tower in Australia.
Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: The Neck, Bruny Island, Tasmania 7150 Australia
Capture the iconic Bruny Island image atop the lookout with 360 degree of views of the Tasman Sea, Tasman peninsula, North and South Bruny Island and Mt Wellington.
Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Bruny Island Berry Farm, 550 Adventure Bay Road, Bruny Island, Tasmania Australia
Sample the in season Berry’s or simply buy an ice cream.
Duration: 20 minutes

Stop At: Bruny Island Premium Wines, 4391 Bruny Island Main Rd, Lunawanna, Bruny Island, Tasmania 7150 Australia
We often pull into the winery for $5 wine tastings. Sample the local home grown. If this is something you’d really like to do let your guide know.
Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Get Shucked Oyster Bar, 1735 Bruny Island Main Road, Bruny Island, Tasmania Australia
On the way back to the Ferry we will pull in to give you a chance to purchase what we are famous for…… Oysters.
Duration: 20 minutes

Stop At: Adventure Bay, Adventure Bay, Bruny Island, Tasmania
The largest little sea side town on the Island. Spend some time on the famous beach that has seen some of the worlds most famous explorers land.
Duration: 30 minutes

Day 3: Port Arthur Historic Site

Stop At: Port Arthur Historic Site, Arthur Highway, Port Arthur, Tasmania 7182 Australia
The Port Arthur tour is a direct bus to the historical site where you will have 4 hours to explore the site at your own pace. We recommend taking the free introductory walking tour and the harbour cruise (both options are included in the site admission fee).
This 7 hour round trip departs Hobart at 10:30 AM, arriving 12:00 PM at the main entrance of the Port Arthur Historic Site. We depart from the main entrance (where you were dropped off) at 4:00 PM and arrive back in Hobart around 5:30 PM.
