DESCRIPTION

Come into the most spectacular of Tassie’s
ancient forests with an expert ecologist bringing international experiences and
context to your Big Tree Hunting adventure.

These small-scale boutique tours are run only by special request as schedules
permit. No payment is taken until a suitable date is arranged. Due to high
demand on the calendar dates, we suggest contacting us at least two full weeks
in advance to organise a suitable date. During booking, please include any
alternate dates in the “Special requirements” field. Minimum trip
number is 2, however if you are a solo traveller please do contact us directly
to discuss.

So much more than a walk in the woods, this ecology experience will immerse you
in the fascinating forests of Tasmania. Learn the science and the magic of our
ancient forests with your knowledgeable botanist as he shares his passion and
years of experience on this life-changing day trip.

We can venture into hidden valleys surrounded by craggy mountains, and take a
closer look at what lies beneath some of the oldest, gnarliest and tallest
trees – the plants and fungi of the ancient rainforest lineages and countless
animal species. The journey is half the fun with panoramic views of coastline,
harbour, or mountains as we travel to the forested corners of this amazing
island.

On the flagship full-day Big Tree Hunting trip, you’ll travel westwards
into the mountains on the edge of the Southwest World Heritage Area, and see
many of Tasmania’s major landscape types within a day. Depending on your
interests and current conditions, we can travel into the world-famous Styx
Valley of the Ancients to see some of soaring skyscraper trees of the Tolkien
Grove, or visit the rainforest tracks at the Junee Limestone Cave, or visit the
amazing Twister Sister tree in ancient Southern Hemisphere
Rainforests.  By the time you return to Hobart you will be
well-equipped to learn and understand from all of the trees you will see in
your future travels.

During your trip, your ecologist guide will teach you about the biology and
context of these globally significant forests, share stories from two decades
of climbing and documenting these giant forests, and introduce you to the
landscapes and dynamics of our fascinating little island.
