Sit back and relax on the 35-minute drive to Kettering to get the ferry to Bruny Island.

Stand on the deck as we cross the beautiful water of the D’Entrecasteaux Channel to the island. You might see a pod of dolphins or a seal.

Stop at The Neck. Climb to the lookout to see stunning 360-degree views of the island and beyond. This is an isthmus that connects the north and south ends of the island. Spot the fairy penguin dens in the surrounding sand dunes, this is where they come to nest at night.

Bruny Island has an abundance of local foods to try and you will get to stop at a few of the best including, Bruny Island Honey, Bruny Island Cheese Co, Bruny Island Chocolate Co, and Get Shucked Oysters.

Visit Cape Bruny Lighthouse. This charming heritage-listed lighthouse, built in 1836, is Australia’s second oldest lighthouse. Standing 114 metres tall.

After the 35-minute drive from Hobart, we reach the small seaside town of Kettering. Here we will catch the ferry over to Bruny Island, and enjoy the views from the ferry on the 20-minute ride to Bruny Island.

We take the short 20-minute drive from the ferry terminal to the family-owned Bruny Island Honey and taste the liquid gold, sourced from the pristine forests on Bruny Island. And if something takes your fancy you can purchase a jar (at your own cost).

Stop At: The Neck Lookout, North Bruny, Bruny Island, Tasmania 7150 Australia

Located only a 5-minute drive from Bruny Island Honey, The Neck Lookout is an important habitat for native wildlife (including penguins and short-tailed shearwaters), the Neck is an isthmus connecting the north and south islands of Bruny. Walk up the stair to enjoy magnificent 360-degree views from the top viewing platform.

Stop and stretch your legs after the 45-minute drive to Cape Bruny Lighthouse. Perched on a rugged clifftop, standing 114 metres high, enjoy views across the coastline and ocean – next stop Antarctica. This is Australia’s second-oldest lighthouse. We have time to explore the small museum here and soak in the breathtaking views.

Discover the history of explorers that visited Bruny. Bligh Museum is located in a small cottage built with convict bricks. It features a specialised collection of historic maps, documents, paintings and other artefacts. Let your Guide know if you are interested in stopping here (entry not included – $4 per person).

Locally owned and operated Bruny Island Cheese Company is the perfect place to stop to enjoy some tasty cheese and a beer brewed from locally grown ingredients. Made and matured using traditional methods Bruny Island Cheese Company makes some of the finest artisan cheeses in Australia.

Taste fresh plump oysters plucked straight from the pristine water. Delicious with Tassie sparkling or cider and you can take some home with you, too.
