DESCRIPTION
See a different perspective of Hobart on this majestic historic tall ship. This is no ordinary harbour cruise. Get set for an intimate and unique nautical experience with knowledgeable crew. Take the helm, help with the sails or sit back and relax as you enjoy the scenery.
Sails are set as we depart Kings Pier Marina and turn to sail under the Tasman Bridge, hearing about the shipwrecked Lake Illawara. You’ll see Hobart highlights from the water: Battery Point, the Sydney to Hobart yacht race finish line, Government House, and spot some of the local wildlife if they are out and about. Once back on the southern side of the bridge, sail towards Bellerive or Battery Point and Sandy Bay before heading back to the docks.
SV Rhona H is a Hobart icon. She was professionally built by Tasmanian shipwright Ned Jack in the best of timbers – Huon pine over celery top frames and Tasmanian Oregon masts. She is a classic gaff-rigged vessel with two timber masts, traditional rigging, and six handmade sails with authentic wooden blocks. Sailing the traditional way, she has no winches or roller furlers.
This two-hour sailing experience is a special way to see Tasmania’s capital and will give you insight into how an historic tall ship works.
