You will truly enjoy this one-of-a-kind day tour to this underexplored region of Tasmania which showcases everything that makes Tasmania famous, from fruit orchards to forests.
Departing from Hobart, this day adventure takes you deep into the south of Tasmania along the southernmost road in Australia so you can explore the highlights of this stunning region.
Discover why our island was once referred to as the Apple Isle as you drive through the many orchards. See what lies beneath at Hastings Caves*, then experience Hobart and its surrounds from a different perspective from the summit of Mt Wellington.
This cruise ship shore excursion takes us through the beautiful winding roads of the Deep South as we head to our first destination, Hastings Caves. Head underground with a specialist guide to explore the largest dolomite cave open to visitors in Australia. See spectacular stalactites, columns, shawls, and stalagmites. The cave is spacious with no narrow passages, however, there are 250 stairs with handrails leading in and out of the cave. Warm-up in the nearby swimming pool which is fed by thermal springs. The water is 28 degrees Celsius all year and the pool is surrounded by ferns and winding streams within the most magnificent cool temperature rainforest.
Soak in the views of the Huon river on our way back to Hobart. For cruise ships staying overnight we may have time to stop at the Kermandie Hotel to enjoy lunch (not included in price) overlooking the serene Huon River.
If time permits we’ll finish the day with a visit to the summit of Mt Wellington/kunanyi where you’ll experience spectacular views of Hobart and its surrounding suburbs.
*Please note the price includes a 45 minute guided walking tour of Australia’s largest dolomite cave open to the public, access to the Thermal Springs and access to the Platypus Walk.
