Explore Port Arthur and the Tasman Peninsula with this full day tour from Hobart. Taking you from Hobart with a 7:30am departure and into the heart of the Tasman Peninsula, you’ll be amazed by the natural beauty that the region possesses. The Peninsula is home to a handful of impressive sights including the Tasman Arch and Devils Kitchen, both of which will be seen on this adventure. Additionally, you’ll embark on a cliff top walk from Paterson’s Arch to Waterfall Bay to admire the natural beauty it showcases. Visiting some of the Tasman Peninsula’s must-see sights is a great way to begin your adventure out of Hobart, but it is only just the beginning.

The next stop on the agenda is the popular Port Arthur Historic Site. Here you will be give around 4 hours to explore the grounds and learn about the rich history of the site with the help of one of the Site’s expert guides. You can wander around the ruins, admire the views and jump aboard a cruise to the Isle of the Dead, which was the burial place for inmates. Come time to leave the Port Arthur Historic Site, you’ll travel towards Richmond Village for a short stop. Here, you’ll be able to walk across Australia’s oldest bridge that’s still in use today and is believed to be haunted, as well as exploring the historic streets of this popular township. Following your visit to Richmond, you’ll enjoy one final stop before the conclusion of the tour. You’ll be taken to a local lookout for spectacular views of Hobart and Mount Wellington as the sun sets on yet another beautiful day in Tasmania.

Itinerary

  • This tour is action packed and fast paced, so we make an early start from Hobart and drive directly to the stunning Tasman Peninsula. This area has amazing history, fascinating stories and spectacular scenery. It is also home to Australia’s highest sea cliffs. Enjoy the panoramic views of the area from Pirates Bay Lookout which provides a great vantage here of the surrounding area. Passing through Eaglehawk Neck and “The Dogline” our Tour Guides will share with you some truly amazing history and stories of the area

  • Begin one of Tasmania’s “Great Short Walks”. Follow a spectacular track, of around 2 km’s along the Waterfall Bay cliff top. The walk takes around 45-60 minutes, is undulating, but categorised as an easy walk. The track concludes at the remarkable rock formations of Tasman Arch and Devil’s Kitchen. Continuing your journey, arrive at the Port Arthur Historic Site

  • Enter the Port Arthur Historic Site, there is a wealth of information and history to take in. Travellers will have ample time to explore and discover the nooks and crannies with around 4 hours on site

  • Entry includes a complimentary Harbour Cruise around the Isle of the Dead and a guided walking tour with one of the Site’s expert guides. Discover the grim and violent history of the early Australian Penal system and get a sense of the isolation experienced by the convicts in this “inescapable prison”. With around 4 hours here, travellers will have ample time to walk amongst the main penitentiary; see the solitary confinement cells and many more buildings in this World Heritage open air museum

  • On return to Hobart, make a stop at historic Richmond Village. Meander the streets, stop for a coffee, visit the Lolly Shop and walk across Australia’s oldest bridge still in use – a convict built sand-stone bridge, reported to be haunted! Finally, before travellers re-enter Hobart this tour will stop for a fabulous view across Hobart from a local lookout. A picturesque way to return to the city
