The discovery of the vine disease plylloxera led to a complete vine pull in the 1870’s! It precipitated an absence of vines lasting almost 100 years. Today the region is home to many boutique vineyards creating world class varietal wines. The incredible variety of its rugged beauty from surf coast to volcanic plains and variety of micro-climates mean its wine; food and landscape resist any single description.
