Cruise the waters of Roebuck Bay (Yawuru Nagulagun) a heritage-listed marine park steeped in history, culture, and marine life with so many stories to share. Explore 120-million-year-old dinosaur trackways, and World War II plane wrecks or just enjoy the spectacular scenery, birdlife, and marine life that are in abundance.
Within Roebuck Bay, we visit Dampier Creek Aptly named Dampier Creek after the explorer William Dampier who was on the British to set foot on the shores in 1688. He found himself on Australia’s Kimberley coastline as he was the first Englishman to chart this area.
Steeped with the multicultural history of the pearling days where 400 pearl luggers would gather within the shelter waters of Dampier Creek to bring in the shells for the pearl button industry.
The creek is lined with 23 different varieties of mangroves creating a very necessary ecosystem for many bird species and marine animals and showcasing the region’s massive tidal range.
