DESCRIPTION
Kingfisher Tours are pleased to present a new tour product for the 2024 season. We have developed a cultural
tourism product on country with the Djarranny Djarrany Native Title holders at Legune Station.
Jump in our airconditioned 4WDs for a guided 50 minute drive to Legune Station for day of cultural immersion, rock art,
fishing, turtle hunting, amazing gorges and waterfalls, food and laughter… all on one of the country’s top cattle stations.
We’ll pick you up from your local accommodation and drive out to Legune Station through Ord Stage 2 agriculture and across the epic Keep River into NT. Your Kingfisher guide will introduce you to the local Djarrany – Djarrany hosts and you’ll be welcomed to country with a traditional muntha and smoking ceremony.
Enjoy a hot billy tea and some fresh damper before exploring some of the ancient rock art sites around, learn where to find the ochre paint used and how to grind it down.
As you head down to the wetlands, you’ll hear the dreaming story of the Lightning Man who walks across this country and see the abundance of bird and other wildlife the country homes. Try your hand at throwing a fishing net and using a hand reel between collecting mussels and maybe even catching a turtle!
If it’s been a fruitful haul your guides and hosts will prepare it on an open fire pit for an extraordinary bush tucker gourmet picnic lunch.
After lunch you’ll get to walk into one of the many springs and swimming holes for a refreshing dip before your guided journey back into Kununurra, WA.
There is also the station cattle operations that the guides will explain, as they drive around to the various sites. Legune is a major player in the Australian Cattle industry with a fascinating history, this day is not to be missed!
