Here you will go out on the Great Barrier Reef, where you can choose to snorkel or dive, learn about Aboriginal culture, discover the natural wildlife and explore ancient rainforests and gorges.
Gold Coast
The Gold Coast is full of theme parks, family fun and Beaches. It isn’t called Travel Destination Gold Coast for nothing. The high rise buildings come right down to the surf beach and the series of inland waterways, shopping and restaurant precincts mix sun, surf and fun into a great environment. The Gold Coast is one of Australia’s iconic tourist destinations.
Byron Bay
Byron Bay’s endless beaches and reliable surf breaks have been attracting surfers for years. But today its beaches draw visitors for meditation, walking and sheltered swimming as much as their tubular waves. Kayak through clear waters beside a pod of bottlenose dolphins in Cape Byron Marine Park, or snorkel or scuba dive among sea turtles at Julian Rocks. Hit the popular right-hand point break, The Pass, halfway between Main Beach and the Cape Byron Headland.
Cairns
Cairns is the 4th most popular destination for international visitors. It is situated on a coastal strip between the Atherton Tableland (part of the Great Dividing Range) and the Coral Sea.
Cairns is a major gateway to the Great Barrier Reef. It is the departure point for many day trips to the Atherton Tableland, Kuranda and the Daintree Tropical Rainforest. Flying into Cairns, one is struck by the lush tropical vegetation contrasting with the bright blue of the Coral Sea. There is a wide range of hotels in Cairns, both in the city itself and along the northern beaches heading to Port Douglas.
The Great Barrier Reef
The Great Barrier Reef is the world’s largest feature made up of living organisms. Stretching 2,600 kilometres (1,600 miles) down the northeast coast of Queensland, Australia, the Great Barrier Reef can be seen clearly from outer space.
Consisting of more than 900 islands and 2,900 individual reefs, it cannot be experienced by strapping on a mask, snorkel and fins and taking a casual swim from the beach. A great deal of thought has to be given to the style of the Great Barrier Reef trip you wish to take.
Daintree Forest
The Daintree has some of the most beautiful birds and the largest crocodiles you will ever see.
The Daintree Rainforest is the oldest tropical rainforest on Earth and is the home of one of the oldest Aboriginal cultures. It is a World Heritage Protected eco-destination and can be visited by any number of day trips from Cairns or Port Douglas.
Cape Tribulation
Cape Tribulation is a headland that lies within the Wet Tropics World Heritage Site and Daintree National Park. This is where the rainforest meets the ocean. To take advantage of the unique geography, you can participate in an array of activities, including horseriding, bushwalking, kayaking and snorkelling.

Drive to Gold Coast airport and leave the car and fly a couple of hours north to Cairns in tropical North Queensland. Pick up your car at the airport and drive through Cairns, wander around the shops and visit Tjapukai Aboriginal Centre.
Continue north 1 hour to the beautiful portside village of Port Douglas.

In the morning, drive to the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway over the Kuranda Rain Forest to Kuranda Village. Explore the quaint village, markets and cafes before catching the Kuranda Scenic Rail train back to Freshwater.
