Our multi-award winning tour gives a unique insight into the fascinating process of modern pearl farming. Located only 38km from Broome, learn how nacre is formed to create the world’s finest pearls and how it is being applied with modern science for use in the biomedical industry.

You will learn about the collection and spawning of oysters in our purpose-built oyster nursery, appreciate the delicate operations of seeding and harvesting oysters and understand the value of pearls and the creation of stunning jewellery. This shore excursion takes us through the beautiful winding roads of the Huon Valley as we head to our first destination, Hastings Caves. Head underground with a specialist guide to explore the largest dolomite cave open to visitors in Australia. See spectacular stalactites, columns, shawls, and stalagmites. The cave is spacious with no narrow passages, however, there are 250 stairs with handrails leading in and out of the cave. Feeling chilly from the cave experience? Warm up in the nearby swimming pool which is fed by thermal springs. The water is 28 degrees Celsius all year. Soak in the views of the Huon river on our way back to Hobart, time permitting, we’ll finish the day with a visit to the summit of Mt Wellington/kunanyi where you’ll experience spectacular views of Hobart and its surrounding suburbs.
